Welcome!

We are a group of local amateur golfers that get together most weekends for camaraderie and good (and sometimes bad) golf. We play the majority of our golf at the local municipal golf courses in Austin, Texas, but occasionally play some higher end courses through out Texas. Originally we were called the 'Chilly Chops' in honor of Phillip 'Chilly' Maldonado, who along with his brother Greg (GMX), founded the group in the early 1990's. The Chops, as they were known, began to fade as "Life Events" (marriage, kids, etc.) began to consume the Maldonado brothers lives. As a member of the Chilly Chops, I didn't want to see the group vanish, so I took the reins and guided the Chops into the twenty first century. As the membership grew and a new breed of Chops joined the group, I thought it was time to introduce a new and appropriate name that stands today, 'The Muny Rats'.

The Rats, as we're affectionately called, have several very competitive tournaments which are a lot of fun and usually quite entertaining.  Details on all our competitions can be found on the
EVENTS tab.  The big two are The Muny Rat Club Championship (MRCC), and the Tom Henry Memorial Cup (THMC). The MRCC is played every year in late October or early November. This tournament has a Calcutta and we play for the Gold (Gross winner) and Red (Net winner) head covers. The winners hold these prizes for a year and then pass them on to the next year's winners.  The THMC, is arguably the grandest of all our events.  It is a bi-annual, dual state team match play event that rotates between Texas and Florida every other year. My brother Ian and I formed the Cup to honor the memory of our father, Tom Henry who passed away in 2010.

Two members of our group need special recognition. The first, Thomas Haley (TTT), keeps track of the weekly spreadsheets and also volunteered to be the treasurer. He not only tracks the skins game, he helps me with special events such as the MRCC and THMC. The second Rat I want to recognize is Patrick Giles (PG). This website wouldn't be possible without his hard work and dedication! PG also created our Facebook page and put together some great videos. You can view his work on our Photos and Videos pages. Patrick also helps Thomas and I organize the bigger events. Thank you very much fellas for your assistance along the way!

If you're looking for a competitive game with like minded golfers and enjoy a little action, come out and join us. We play a Skins/CTP's game most Sundays throughout the year. My goal is to continue to grow the group, so if you or someone you know is interested, let me know and I will add you to the distribution list. Hit 'em long, hit 'em straight, but most importantly, smack talk along the way!

Cheers!
